Recent versions of Microsoft Word allow 3D files, such as PLY files to be imported directly into a document, allowing them to be scaled and rotated to optimum position for viewing. This option is located under the Insert tab, labeled 3D Models:
Click the 3D Models icon, and the following menu appears:
Click the menu option “From a File..” to launch the File Open dialog, then click “Polygon Format (*.ply)” from the list of All 3D Models file types:
Select your PLY file to insert, and click Open. The file will appear in your document as a 3D image that can be rotated, scaled and repositioned:
This is a quick and easy way to add ViXL-3D plots to your Word documents.
